Biogas West is the name of a cluster in the field of methane for vehicles in  the Göteborg region and western Sweden. 25 companies and organizations are taking part in the project headed by Business Region Göteborg.

- With this conference we would like to raise the awareness of the extensive international interest for biogas as a vehicle fuel. New techniques are constantly emerging, new ideas that can contribute to decreased greenhouse gas emissions and new work opportunities and growth increase. Biogas is an important part of future solutions which will be additionally highlighted during the conference.

BRG/Biogas Väst is to receive the American environmental prize Blue Sky Award

Business RegionGöteborg AB— BRG — is to receive the American environmental prize Blue Sky Award for creating Biogas Väst, the first regional biogas project in Sweden. It has contributed to biogas being used as a renewable fuel in no less than 7000 natural gas cars, buses and heavy vehicles.

Business Region Göteborg /Biogas Väst receives 58,4 million SEK in grants from the Swedish EPA (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency ) and the Swedish government´s support to climate investment programmes (KLIMP). The project is estimated to reduce Swedish greenhouse gas emissions by 39 240 tonnes a year, this equals emissions from 13 500 cars. The total investments add up to 194 million SEK.
 
“It´s pleasing to see that the investment programmes deliver good effects and that the grants are becoming more effective every year," says Gunnel Horm, head of the Swedish EPA´s Investment Programmes and Information Section.

Business Region Göteborg/Biogas Väst commitment is important in reaching the long term environmental objectives. There is an increased willingness to take the issue of climate change seriously which has to be preserved, says Gunnel Horm, head of the Swedish EPA´s Investment Programmes and Information Section.

-  The grant is of great importance for biomethane as vehicle fuel. It sends positive signals to the biomethane industry in Sweden and the market will grow, says Bernt Svensén , Project manager, Biogas Väst at Business Region Göteborg.

Business Region Göteborg/Biogas Väst:s climate investment programmes are in the field of: biomethane production, technology and fueling stations (liquefied biomethane) for buses and trucks, The grant is divided between following projects:

·        Liquefied biomethane in Lidköping: 16 million (53 million SEK) Municipality of Lidköping /Göteborgs Energi/Swedish Biogas
·        Fueling station (liquefied biomethane) for buses Lidköping: 4,5 million SEK (15 million  SEK ) FordonsGas Sverige AB
·        Development of Biomethane facility  in Skövde: 20,4 million  (68 million SEK)Municipality of Skövde
·        Biogas Brålanda — Pipeline for biomethane, equipment, upgrading plant and fuelstation: 15,3 million SEK  (51 million SEK) Innovatum AB / Hushållningssällskapet
·        Biomethane in heavy duty traffic — Duel fuel technology: 1,7 million SEK (5,8 million SEK) Municipality of Götene
·        Administration: 0,2 million SEK(0,5 million SEK) Business Region Göteborg
